The Penedés Wine region is well known because of its Cava production. Cava, a sparkling wine which is made in exactly the same way as Champagne, has fully established its identity in markets abroad in the last thirty years. Native grapes, a warmer climate and the growing country all contribute to its distinctive character. You will visit the heartland of Cava making, the country around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in southern Barcelona province, an some cellars of the specialized bodegas - or Cava houses – that have been producing on a commercial scale since the end of the 19th century.
The mountain and the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat, founded on s. XI, are located in a natural park to about 50 km of Barcelona. The patron saint of Cataluña, Santa Maria de Montserrat, is venerated in the sanctuary. The Benedictine community, formed by about 80 monks, has served to the sanctuary during almost 1000 years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, work and of welcome to the traveling people. Most probably you will have the chance of listening to the Escolania (Childern’s choir)
